Listening

As some of you may know, I spend a lot of time on my own. I don’t work, and am not really fit enough to get very far on my own. Louise does what she can for me, but she can’t be around all the time and so I need to entertain myself most of the time. I mean I could spend my life on a sofa watching Netflix or Amazon, but that wouldn’t really help.

Pixel C – A love/hate story

Where to start? A few years ago, my old beloved Nexus 7 (2013 edition) gave up the ghost, so to speak, and I was in search of a new tablet. Mostly because of the Nexus 7, and because the Nexus 9 was being phased out (not to mention less good), I opted for a Google Pixel C tablet. 11″ screen, 4k resolution, aluminium case and matching keyboard… USB C connector… the works, and all for a mere king’s ransom of cash. What’s not to love? So, I won’t go to much into the tech specs of this device. Let’s just say it was then, by a long way, the best tablet on the market with any OS.  (more…)

Some updates

Compliance

There have been a couple of updates to the blog including a new page regarding Privacy Policy in order to comply with EU GDPR, and changes to the Moderation Policy and Feedback pages.

In other news, I am no longer using Facebook, LinkedIn, Tumblr nor Twitter. If you followed me on these sites and wish to remain in contact, please leave some feedback, and we can sort out other options. I’ve not gone completely dark, just limiting my exposure to data harvesting.

A request

I’d just like to ask people not to link me any YouTube content  until they reverse their bigoted anti-LGBTQ stance. Being LGBTQ+ or an ally of is not “adult content”, and blocking LGBTQ+ content in the name of being “family friendly” is harmful to kids.

If they want to block adult content, then that’s fine, but they need to be more realistic about their filters. And until they do, I’d rather not be reminded that they exist.

Thank you.

Valentine shennanigans

There is so much I wanted to do today by the time Louise got home from work, but most of them required a lot of preparation and in some cases shopping. Unfortunately, I was unwell over the weekend†, and while I managed (mostly) to do what I needed to, any extras were pushed to the side. (more…)

Headaches

Many apologies for not posting anything this weekend as I had planned. I’ve been suffering from headaches which I originally thought were due to alcohol but now seem to be more like caffeine withdrawal. Also it’s been hot in the house overnight so much dehydration.

Anyway, normal service will be resumed as soon as possible, by which I mean hopefully later today or tomorrow.

Thanks.

I’m Back… again

You may (or may not I suppose) have noticed that I’m back in the land of blogging, and that most of my recent posts have been Elite: Dangerous related. It gives me something semi-regular to blog about when real life isn’t being interesting enough. However, it’s not all I’ll be blogging about, and I’ll tag/categorise it when I do. See you all around.

With Apologies…

This blog seems to be getting loading problems. I’ve seen it and some of you have seen it too. I think it’s due to database caching, but I’m not sure. I am looking into it, but since it’s at a shared hosting provider there’s a limit to what I can see.

I’ve upgraded the cache and started a rebuild, so hopefully things will improve. Meantime, please bear with me. I’m hoping I don’t have to change hosting providers.

Navigating my way through Tuesday

This morning, as I sat in a waiting room full of screaming children for my appointment with an NHS nurse¹ — which was more than an hour and a half late due to traffic hold ups on the A40 — I got a phone call from a recruiter. Due to the situation, he said he’d call me back when I got home, and in what may be a first for recruiters everywhere, he did! Anyway, we spoke, discussed my employment situation and then having promised to send me a job specification for a position in The City™², he asked me to respond to the email when I get it, and hung up. Keyboard and Case

BlueTooth Keyboard
Bluetooth Keyboard

Having got fed up with fiddling with tiny keys while composing blog posts, I decided to order a MiniSuit Bluetooth Keyboard from Amazon for my tablet. Pretty cheap, easy to set up and it looks good. The biggest downside I’ve noticed so far is the lack of a £ symbol, so I guess I’ll be using the on-screen for that. Also, the CTRL key doesn’t appear to work with ConnectBot SSH client, although that could just be me needing to do some setup. (more…)
