Because we want to get you back in work…

So this week has been crazy busy! Yesterday I had to go into Training Link early due to some students needing extra supervision. I had extra paperwork to prepare for the Jobsworth Centre and well, had household chores too, not that I got very far with those.  Today was Jobsworth Centre and more Training Link this afternoon, tomorrow and Thursday I have yet more Training Link stuff since PCs need repairing/rebuilding.  Finally, at some point in amongst all this, I need to get a blood test done. Post Pub Blues

Last night, I was with a group of people in The Blue Posts, a Sam Smith’s pub on Newman Street. I was minding my business with a drink (which as it happens was in incredibly overpriced glass of Chenin Blanc) with my tablet on the table in front of me, switched off, others around had smartphones, some on, some off. The point of the tablet here is to monitor Facebook and Meetup to see when group members are going to arrive, drop out or when new members get lost and need help finding us. I and others do this in a few groups in man pubs and it’s always been great, especially in pubs with Wi-Fi. However, The Blue Posts doesn’t have Wi-Fi, so I was using my own connection. (more…)

Les Misérables

Last night, when Louise arrived, I told her I’d filed my recent DVD and Blu Ray acquisitions in case she was looking for them. She asked me then whether I’d filed Les Misárables under M, to which I replied that no, I’d put it under L. She told me this was ridiculous, and that I might as well have¹ filed The Time Machine under T. I just looked dumbfounded until she realised what she’d said. (more…)

On HS2

If there is one thing that gives me more headaches than unemployment, then it is the impending threat of HS2. It’s hard enough to find work and survive a course of NHS treatment when you have a stable home, but when you’re left uncertain as to whether your home will even exist next year, it becomes less than an optimal situation.
